The Parish Barn Dance - 18th March 2006
|
The Parish Barn Dance was a
resounding success socially and financially. Held at the
Haven Centre, Crawley Down, one hundred and ten parishioners took to
the floor after a fish and chips supper, and they really shook a leg or
two. Young and old mixed freely and a great time was had by all.
Around £200 will be given to Outreach Peru, the new name for the old Friends of Peru. Organising the event was the new Parish Events Group (PEG). |

House Groups
| House Groups are Starting
after Easter Next Sunday (19-03-2006) in the Narthex after Mass we
will have the opportunity of meeting the House Group Leaders to ask
questions and see whether we would like to join a group. These groups
will be small up to twelve- and cannot expand beyond that without
dividing to create another group. All are open to ecumenical
possibilities and some will be led by our Anglican friends from Turners
Hill and Balcombe.
What will happen in a group? They will gather over a glass of something, will read the Gospel of the following Sunday and try and see how it might apply to their lives, they will think of some practical response they can make to what they have discovered, and finally will end with prayer. The whole proceedings will be carefully timed to last an hour and a quarter. Is it for you? Yes, because no matter what your church commitment or your knowledge, you have something to offer and something to receive. Give it a go, and pack it in if it doesn’t suit. Besides, you will be a pioneer, because I cannot find a Parish in the south of England (or anywhere for that matter) which has House Groups working in this way, but this is certainly the way the English Bishops are moving in their thought for the future. Come, therefore, and be a pioneer! Read the House Group Flyer |

| The Cyberspace House Group
This online group is part of the House Group family, held in a ‘chat
room’ accessed via your PC. It is ideal for people who can’t go out for
a faith-based discussion, but will operate on same lines as the other
groups with just a few interesting differences.
We’ll be able to connect with other parishioners and ex-parishioners from all parts of the globe to talk about the Sunday Gospel and what it means to us, and will be there to support each other and grow in faith together. Contact Jill Carter on jill@carterclan.co.uk |

Mass Changes in the Parish - 5th January 2006
| Permanent Changes | From Saturday 14th January 2006 there will be a 5.30 p.m. Vigil Mass in the Abbey Church on Saturday evenings. This will replace the 8.00 a.m. Sunday morning Mass. The style of this Mass will be different from the 8am Mass with music and singing to help us to pray. | |
| Unchanged but Different | The 9.30 a.m. Mass will remain, but the Parish Priest and Deacon will be more in evidence. The Parish Priest will preside at the liturgy on the first Sunday of each month and the Deacon read the Gospel. On other Sundays the Parish Priest will be the Gospel reader. Here is an attempt to bring Fr. James and Deacon Chris into sharper focus as the chief pastoral agents of the Parish. Other liturgical changes suggested by the Parish Development Plan will be implemented. | |
| Temporary Change | Building Work will commence on the Chapel of St. Dunstan at West Hoathly on Monday 30th January and will finish 16 weeks later on Friday 26th May. The Chapel will not be in use during that time, but St. Margaret’s the village Anglican Church have kindly offered us hospitality. So, from 5th February Mass will be celebrated at 11.45 (sic) am on Sunday mornings in St. Margaret’s Church, West Hoathly. |

St. Dunstan’s Chapel Re-building - 5th January 2006
![]() St Dunstan's Chapel |
St. Dunstan’s lies in the middle of the beautiful village of West Hoathly. It is in North Street not far from the centre of the village which is marked by St. Margaret’s, a pre- Reformation church, and The Cat opposite. Originally the Chapel was a butcher’s shop and two cottages. They were purchased in 1957 by a parishioner and converted to a chapel. The building work is a response first of all to the Disabilities Act which demands all public buildings, including churches, be made suitable for the use of those of us with physical disabilities. Secondly, the window frames are rotting, lintels sagging and staircase rickety. Third, there is no loo in the chapel. All these three reasons have prompted this programme of building. The money, £85000, has been put together by a Bequest, a generous Trust donation, £10000 from the Parish as a whole and £10000 to be found from the worshipping community at the Chapel. Why not come and take a look at it soon so you will have a Before and After view? There is now a dedicated area for the renovation work complete with pictures so that you can keep up to date on what is happening. |

Quiz Night - 24th October 2005
| "James’ Gang" won the quiz again! Does Fr. James have access to the questions via a heavenly satellite or is he just brilliant at assembling a very knowledgeable team? In spite of the cup being retained at Worth Abbey, we all had a wonderful evening. The church hall was packed and competition was fierce though friendly. Thanks go to Catherine and Barry Lloyd for preparing and presenting the questions and to all the ‘usual suspects’ for their unfailing culinary contributions; they are always willing and cheerful and extremely efficient. The evening raised £620 for St. Leonard’s Anglican Church in Turner’s Hill. More Pictures from the Quiz Night |
